While there are a lot of really common types of body piercing there are those that are a bit more unique or original than others. While just about every part of the body has been pierced throughout history there are some today that are very common and accepted while others are simply much more unique. Some of the more unique body piercing types include the piercings mentioned below.
The Corset:
This is generally seen on the back of a female and is actually a series of surface piercings which duplicate the look on the back of a corset where the lacing would be. There are usually two rows of piercings and can range from four to 20 or more piercings on each side. These are usually temporary piercings.
Hand Web:
This is the piercing of the webbing that exists between the fingers, such as exists between the thumb and the rest of the fingers. This is a surface piercing and has a very high rate of rejection. This type of piercing is usually best fitted with a barbell or captive bead ring.
Hip Piercing:
Many people pierce the surface of their skin atop their hip bones, usually one on each side. A surface barbell is the body jewelry of choice for most people who have hip piercings.
Madison Piercing:
This is a piercing that is done at the skin on the front of the neck, usually near the base of the throat. This is a surface piercing and can be fitted with barbells, captive bead rings, bananas, and more. This type of piercing has a very high rate of rejection.
Navel Piercing:
Belly button piercings have been very popular for the last several years. This is a surface piercing and is usually done on the flesh on the top portion of the belly button, though some people have both the top and the bottom pierced. Bananas, barbells, and captive bead rings are the most common body jewelry for this piercing.
Nipple Piercing:
Nipple piercing is common in just about every culture today. This involves passing a needle through the nipple and placing a barbell through the fistula. Barbells, special nipple jewelry, and nipple shields are some of the most commonly used body jewelry pieces used for a nipple piercing.
Nape Piercing:
This is a common though oft rejected body piercing that is done at the nape of the neck. This is a surface piercing that needs to be measured and placed carefully to help avoid the threat of rejection and associated migration. Barbells are generally used in this type of piercing.
